“Life is mine” by Zuloh: Song Review

New York-born, London-based indie electronic artist Zuloh has just released the lead single, “Life is Mine,” ahead of his upcoming debut EP, set to drop this summer. Channeling the festival energy of the 2010s, the track pays homage to indie rock icons like Two Door Cinema Club and Phoenix, as well as electronic artists like Porter Robinson and Aldn.

To me, this song echoes GROUPLOVE’s “Tongue Tied,” but with a heart that’s just started to heal. At its core, “Life is mine” is about choosing yourself after years of catering to everyone else. Zuloh sings of reclaiming the passions he set aside for someone else, “I choose myself this time,” which resonates deeply with anyone who feels they gave too much to others without reciprocation.

The repeated hook, “This life is mine,” is equal parts affirmation and release, and turns the lyrics of the track into a recovering people-pleaser’s cry of catharsis. It felt vulnerable, relatable (“'Cause I pour my heart out too much”), and undeniably catchy. It’s definitely my newest earworm.

“Life is mine” is our first taste of Zuloh’s forthcoming debut EP, due later this summer. To celebrate, he’s headlining Dream Bags Jaguar Shoes in Shoreditch on July 24th, giving fans a chance to experience his music live.

I’m excited to see how Zuloh’s genre-blending fusion of nostalgic 2010s indie rock and electronica carves out a lane that’s uniquely his own, an artist truly taking control of his life.
