Dropkick Murphys and Bad Religion Bring “Summer of Discontent” Tour to Asbury Park
The Dropkick Murphys, by Travis Schneider
Two punk powerhouses. One stacked summer tour. On Tuesday, August 13, Dropkick Murphys and Bad Religion roll into Asbury Park for a co-headliner that promises to shake the Stone Pony Summer Stage to its foundation.
The Summer of Discontent tour finds both bands in their top form. Dropkick Murphys, fresh off their annual St. Patrick’s Day madness, are hitting the road with energy and some new material. Fans can expect the singalongs they’re known for, alongside their new single “Sirens,” a gritty, anthem that doubles as a call for unity. It's classic Murphys: working-class fire, pounding riffs, and frontman Ken Casey unmistakably leading the charge. Word is, more unreleased songs from their upcoming album might sneak into the set.
Their live shows are a spectacle- whistles, bagpipes, and a sea of fists in the air. The full lineup includes Casey, Tim Brennan, Jeff DaRosa, Matt Kelly, James Lynch, and Kevin Rheault, with multi-instrumentalist Campbell Webster joining on the road.
Sharing the spotlight are punk icons Bad Religion, who bring over four decades of high-intensity, charged songwriting to the stage. With 17 studio albums under their belt and a new one reportedly in the works, they’re known for tight sets packed with fan favorites and high-energy classics. Greg Graffin, Jay Bentley, Brian Baker, Mike Dimkich, and Jamie Miller form the current lineup, which is widely considered one of the strongest in the band’s history.
Kicking things off are The Mainliners, whose opening set is bound to light the fuse. If you want the full experience, show up early and ready to move.
This show isn’t just for die-hard punks- it’s for anyone who wants to scream, sweat, and feel something real. Whether you’re a longtime fan or just looking for a night of raw live music, this is the one to circle on your calendar.
