Remy Bond: A Timeless New Voice

When I first discovered Remy Bond, it was back in May, through a nineteen-second Instagram Reel. The silhouettes of two young women stand back-to-back, before breaking into an ABBA-esque number. A spotlight spins towards them, and suddenly it was like I was watching Cher and Goldie Hawn–but I wasn’t. I was watching Remy Bond and her sister, Olivia, in a promotion for a song called “Moviestar.” Well, I guess I wasn’t so far off when Cher and Goldie came to mind. I proceeded to dive deeper into Bond’s discography, and when I was done, I had another favorite artist. Beachy, blonde, and bedazzled: That is Remy Bond.
Some might consider Bond’s real start to be when she was on the sixth season of Master Chef Junior; however, her music career began in 2023, when she released her first single, “The End of the World.” It’s hauntingly whimsical and lingers on the concept of being at your lowest, yet still feeling invincible. The song was followed by “Benzo Queen,” which is reminiscent of Lana Del Rey’s early days, when she was Lizzy Grant. Here, Bond maintains the same ethereal mood but amps up the guitars and the overall edge. There is something in these songs that speaks to the nostalgia they intend to evoke but also to the more modern sounds we hear today.
In the last two years, Bond has released several more singles, including hits “Summer Song” as well as the aforementioned “Moviestar,” which she and her sister co-wrote. Both songs seem to exist in the same world, yet they have vastly different premises. In “Summer Song,” Bond expresses the exhilaration and joy of running off with the man she loves. Her echoing vocals accompanied by low guitar strums paint the picture of a sweltering summer on the West Coast. “Moviestar” seems to be a much more glittery and somewhat campy take on if that all went wrong. With these singles, it is evident that she has fully embraced her niche, with bouffant wigs, shimmering hibiscus prints, and retro everything. Bond takes listeners back to the days of Elvis and Priscilla, Vegas and Hollywood, all while keeping up with the interests of a twenty-first-century audience. While certainly extravagant, it all feels so natural for Bond. In her recent debut tour, you could catch her singing inside giant champagne glasses or popping out of a three-tiered cake–all while hitting her vape.
With her first tour wrapping up, and a Rolling Stone profile recently published, many fans are on the edge of their pink-vinyl seats for what the emerging artist has in store. An album has been teased, but not yet confirmed. However, Bond has recently announced the long-awaited release of her single, “No One,” stating it will be available to stream on July 25th.
What Bond does with her style is truly unique–and I’m not just referring to the props she uses. Somehow, musically and aesthetically, she has managed to capture the nostalgia of the music industry's earlier days, all while staying true to her generation and herself. I believe that her music has something for everyone: a timeless sound, some groovy instruments, and most of all, charm.
